Worker Trapped in Berks County Recycling Plant Pit Rescued
July 12, 2018
A worker trapped in a pit at a metal recycling plant in Ontelaunee Township, Pennsylvania sustained serious leg injuries. On Wednesday morning, around 9am, the construction accident occurred when the worker who was completing tasks at the end of a conveyor belt became trapped by the machinery in a 20-foot pit at the facility. His leg was pinned by the machinery, and it took about two hours for several rescue crews and medical staff from the Reading Hospital to extricate him. He will receive additional medical treatment at the hospital for his injuries.
Workers may be well-aware of the dangers of working in the construction industry, but an unexpected accident may arise without warning and put employees in precarious situations. They may sustain injuries ranging in severity or even fatalities. In some cases, a work environment may fail to implement the proper safeguards or may contain faulty equipment that leads to an accident.
